This month I'm taking time to write down some of the things that I am thankful for. Today, it's my eyesight!

I'm thankful everyday for being able to see. I couldn't always though; in high school my eyesight began to go and I couldn't see long distances. This progressed and by my late 30's, I couldn't seem much more that a few feet in front of me before things got blurry.

It's a helpless feeling not being able to see. Then a little miracle happened: I was able to get lasik surgery on both my eyes.

On the day of the operation the doctor looked down and seemed surprised. I asked him if there was something wrong and he replied that he had not had a patient who didn't at least seem a little nervous about the procedure. I looked at him and told him, that I wanted to see very badly and wasn't nervous at all.

That night after the procedure we were at a friend's house. I was able to take the patch off one of my eyes and noticed that I could see a magazine across the room. Notably that, I could see the headlines and the picture on the cover! Though still a little fuzzy, I could even make out the subtext. I was ecstatic!

There is a song called 'Amazing Grace' and one of the lines is, 'I was blind, but now I see.'

Gratitude for having my eyesight restored, that is what I am thankful for today!
