Seal Is Definitely Not a Fan of Lorde’s ‘Green Light’
Lorde's Melodrama is currently sitting at No. on the Billboard 200 — but it sounds like Seal did not pre-order the album on iTunes.
During an episode of The Voice Australia over the weekend, contestant Sarah Stone performed Lorde's lead single, "Green Light," for the crowd. And when it came time for mentor Seal to share his opinion after being asked a question, he didn't mince words.
When asked by host Sonia Kruger whether Sarah had the strongest voice of the season, he remarked: “The strongest female voice in the competition? No. Look, Sarah, I really like you — I’ve told you that off set. I think you made the most of a not particularly good song. I’m not a big fan. I couldn’t sing that song because it wouldn’t inspire me, but I thought you did great."
Err, yikes.
Boy George, a fellow mentor on the show this season, jumped in with a “you sung it better than Seal!" — but the "Kiss From a Rose" crooner didn't stop there with the Lorde shade.
“Perhaps, because Seal doesn’t sing bad songs," he snipped back.
The harsh criticism of the song in question, as opposed to Sarah's performance, created a major social media backlash, and is already generating headlines suggesting that Australia "has turned on Seal." They evidently put their anger into action as well: Seal's team was cut down from 3 contestants to just one remaining in the competition for the season's grand finale. That said, Sarah Stone was also sent home.
