Remember When Dallas Was Being Considered For the 2024 Olympics?

In an article published in 2014, Texas Monthly put together the scenario if Dallas got the bid to be the host city for the 2024 Summer Olympics, of course, it was awarded to Paris, France.

Of course by 2015 when the bidding process began, Dallas was not in the top 5 cities that were being considered, The cities in the final bidding ended up being Budapest, Hamburg, Rome, Los Angeles, and Paris. Budapest, Hamburg, and Rome withdrew from the bidding which left only Los Angeles and Paris.

On July 31, 2017, the IOC made a deal that Paris would host in 2024 and Los Angeles would host in 2028. Dallas could have been in there, so what happened that Dallas didn't even make the top 5?

Seems that Mayor Michael Nutter in May 2014 wrote the USOC saying the city had decided not to go ahead with the bidding for the 2024 Summer Olympics since they were not selected as one of the four potential U.S. hosts.

That went to Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.

The United States Olympic Committee announced in January 2015 that they had selected Boston to be the USOC choice for host city from the United States, but in July 2015, Boston's bid was withdrawn so the bid process continued and in September 2015 the USOC announced Los Angeles as the selection for the host city in the United States.

But Dallas is not done trying to bid to be the site for future Olympic games. The Dallas 2020 Committee is looking at building a proposal for future Olympic games.

So Texas is not out of the running for a future Olympic bid, but it will probably be the games in 2032 or 2036 at the earliest.
