Midland Fire Department Is Hosting Strong Man and Woman Competition!
The Midland Fire Department is partnering with a local gym to host a firefighter-themed Strong Man and Woman Competition for a good cause.The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 at Heroes Fitness (4400 N. Midland Dr.), and the department hopes to host the event on an annual basis to help others in the community. This year’s proceeds will be donated to the family of Midland firefighter Aaron Hughes, who passed away last week after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Men and women will each have three timed events to complete, and can compete as individuals or in a team of five. Each person participating individually or on a team must pay a registration fee of $30. Children are welcome to participate in three non-timed events for free.
The public is encouraged to register to participate at Heroes Fitness or support the event day-of by cheering on others. Fit2Go will have breakfast available for purchase and items from local vendors have been donated for an auction.
The Strong Man Challenge will consist of pulling a 50,000-pound fire truck 50 ft., flipping a 550-pound tire 50 ft., and dragging a 200-pound mannequin 50 ft.
The Strong Woman Challenge will consist of pulling a 12,000-pound fire truck 25 ft., flipping a 150-pound tire 25 ft., and dragging a 75-pound mannequin 25 ft.
