How Has The Texas Winter Forecast Held Up So Far?

We are over halfway through winter so how has the forecast for the winter held up for us so far?

The two main forecasters that most people trust are the Farmer's Almanac and NOAA and the two contradict each other on what winter was going to look like.

The forecast from Farmer's Almanac forecasted winter would hit early and get milder with a frigid January and a milder February.

NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) forecasted that we would experience a warmer-than-usual winter with dry conditions from December to February which makes the Farmer's Almanac forecast so far, the more accurate.

We have had a few winter blasts this season mostly in December leaving us with a milder January so far.

But just wait, Midland/Odessa has most of its record lows around the 9th of February, which is the anniversary of the winter freeze from 2 years ago that crippled most of Texas and caused the Texas power grid to shut down.

February 8th is the date that Midland/Odessa set its record lowest temperature in history of -11 degrees, set in both 1933 and 1985.

Also, we still have two months before it is officially spring, March 20, so Mother Nature could still throw us a curveball and send us another deep freeze, but it is unlikely it will be as bad as it was in 2021.

As far as I am concerned, it could warm up to 80 tomorrow and stay that way forever and I would be happy, but the winter lovers that live in this area will be wishing for a snowpocalypse to hit the area sometime in the next few weeks.

Where were you when Winter Storm Uri hit Texas the week of February 14th and 15th 2021?

The country was already dealing with the COVID crisis and then came another one.

According to weather.com, the storm produced damaging ice from the Northwest.

Texas Cities like Abilene and San Angelo had record snowfall. Beating records that were made back in the late 1800s.

In Austin a record 6.4 inches of snow was recorded at Austin - Bergstrom Airport, their heaviest snow in 72 years, since Jan. 30, 1949.

San Antonio had almost 3 inches of snow bringing them their heaviest snowfall since 1985, those nice people art Seaworld also saw 6 inches of snowfall.

Locally here in the Killeen- Temple area, streets, schools, and businesses were shut down and there were massive power outages. Not to mention a certain electric company going out of business due to the rates of customers skyrocketing!

It was a disaster!

But here we are a year later, we now have stories we can tell our grandkids about how the effects of Winer Storm Uri of 2021 had us all in a frenzy.
