It’s been close to a year since we learned True Detective and Beasts of No Nation director Cary Fukunaga had officially set a Netflix return to direct Jonah Hill and Emma Stone in new dark comedy series Maniac, which at long last is finally moving forward. Reports suggest that production will take place later this year, potentially setting a 2018 premiere.

Per Deadline, filming on the 10-episode Norwegian-adapted series will begin in New York City on August 15, likely wrapping before Thanksgiving. Stone and Hill reportedly met to discuss Maniac during their mutual presence in Los Angeles for the Screen Actors Guild Awards, with Paramount brass stepping in to shore up their schedules for the project.

Fukunaga will direct all episodes of the new 10-episode series, remaking the 2014 Norwegian drama of a man living a fantasy life in his dreams, but in reality locked up at an institution. The Leftovers writer Patrick Somerville will adapt the series, while Fukunaga, Stone and Hill will executive produce the Paramount TV project with Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Doug Wald.

Initial reports had Maniac eyed for a two-season order, but will a firm production date expedite the process? Watch the original Maniac trailer below.
