Yellowstone was the break out show of 2021. Is 1883 going to be the break out show of 2022? Well, if you ask some Yellowstone fans, the prequel to Yellowstone, 1883, still has a lot to prove.

There is no doubt that Yellowstone, which just had it's season finale, was a major success and continues to be the hottest show of the year. But will 1883 have the same success. Unlike Yellowstone, 1883 is not on Paramount Network but running exclusively on Paramount Plus.

THE TV RATINGS FOR 1883 SO FAR ARE NOT BAD

According to Variety....‘1883’ had the biggest debut for a new show on Cable since 2015. But, that rating was a showing of the first show on Paramount and not Paramount plus.

SOME YELLOWSTONE FANS ARE NOT IMPRESSED WITH YELLOWSTONE

According to Outsider...fans are getting tired of 1883 and the 6666 crossover of shows. Of course, the producers are going to use Yellowstone to promote 1883 and 6666, but some fans who have watched 1883 are not impressed with the show.   On rotten tomatoes here is what some fans had to say about 1883....

Very disappointing. Was expecting a gritty western and got something closer to Little House on the Prairie. Making Elsa a main focus of the show is a mistake. Elsa's "monologues" are getting old and I've only seen 2 episodes. And the accents, especially Elsa's in her monologues, are awful. And the choice of two country singers as 2 of the lead characters didn't make sense.

Marcus R

There truly wasn't a single enjoyable moment in the first episode. It's shallow, it's a lazy story, and every scene is violent to the point of satire. The violence wouldn't seem outlandish if the show wasn't portrayed with a hue of realism

Manny P

All very generic in the sense of nothing original is portrayed. It's all been done a million times……since 1883. Sam Elliot playing Sam Elliot, playing Sam Elliot. I agree with others, McGraw should stick to the music. Tiresome.

THERE ARE FANS WHO LOVE THE NEW SHOW 1883

The overall rating on Rotten Tomatoes is not bad. It has a rating of 87% from the audience.

Great acting by Sam Elliot and Isabel May. Realistic and treacherous storyline that really takes you back to the old west days in this prequel to Yellowstone. Good westerns are hard to find, but this series puts an arrow right in your heart. Nice to see how John Dutton's great, great, grandparents founded the Yellowstone Ranch in Montana in 1888.
