If you don't know, don't feel bad. I had no clue either. The answer to the question: What was the first CD to his the market?, is Billy Joel's '52nd Street' which reached the market alongside Sony's CDP-101 CD player on 1 October 1982 in Japan.

The Japanese launch was followed in March 1983 by the introduction of CD players and discs to Europe and North America (where CBS Records released sixteen titles).
