It is that time of year again, the winter version that is, fireworks stands are open again for celebrating the new year.

The answer is yes, Midland and Odessa can shoot fireworks this year because as of now, there is no burn ban in Midland or Ector Counties.

But surrounding counties in West Texas are not so lucky, like Brewster, Crockett, Culberson, Glasscock, Howard, Jeff Davis, Martin, Reagan, Reeves, Terrell, Ward, and Winkler Counties, they are all currently under burn bans which means no fireworks for them this New Year's Eve.

Of course, the shorter list is the counties that are not under a burn ban right now which includes: Andrews, Crane, Dawson, Ector, Gaines, Loving, Midland, Pecos, Scurry, and Upton Counties.

Firework stands should be opening up in the counties that are not under a burn ban, but there could be some in the counties that are, you will just have to look for them.

The firework stands in the greater Midland/Odessa area should be open and ready to distribute out fireworks for your New Year's Eve celebrations.

Remember, even if Ector and Midland Counties are not under a burn ban they still do not allow fireworks to be fired off within city limits, so you will have to go out to your uncle's farm or ranch to shoot off fireworks any time of the year.

If you are shooting off fireworks at midnight this Friday evening, just be safe about it and don't point them at anybody or into dry brush.
