Gunner grew up in Chicago and left at age 20 to travel the country and work on-air. He's lived all over the place and is now happy to be planted and staying put. When he's not waking up early and hanging out with Gwen on the Lonestar 92.3 Morning Show and playing your favorite country songs, you'll find him in the office working behind the scenes... He is also Brand Manager for Lonestar 92.3 and our sister station, 99.9 KBAT, as well as Director of Content for all of our stations in Midland-Odessa. He's excited to be here and he and his wife Vicki are looking forward to exploring West Texas and taking it all in... playing mini golf, going to movies, or grilling on the patio with the radio on.
World Toilet Day–At Townsquare Midland Odessa
So--morning shows, at some point during the show--will mention silly National holidays or significant days on the calendar, just as a nod to the sometimes silly things that get listed as actual days we recognize. Today is no exception--as it is "World Toilet Day". So named to commemorate the toilet and everything it does for us each and every day (in other words--people sat around trying to come up with a special day for November 19th, and while sitting in the restroom came up with this). There's one staggering statistic that gets thrown out with this day--and that is that 3.6 Billion people don't have a toilet. Let that sink in for a moment. No place to sit comfortably when duty calls--or is that 'doody' calls? No, seriously-THAT is a sad statistic to think about. So be grateful as you go thru your day and weekend this weekend that you don't have that problem...
Should The Speed Limit On The Loop 250 In Midland Be Raised?
The speed limit on Loop 338 in Odessa is 65. On State Highway 191 it's 75, whether you're in Odessa or Midland. Yet Loop 250 in Midland is the slowest at 60. We all know that no one goes the speed limit on Loop 250 (well, I shouldn't say "no one"--there are those occasional cars and trucks in the left passing lane going 60 or under and driving the rest of us crazy)... For the most part, we all do close to 70 unless we see the Po-Po on the side of the road with the radar out. I know the last time any speed limit changes were considered by the Midland City Council was back in 2019 for some roadways away from Loop 250. Perhaps it's time to bring this up and see what happens.
Midland Odessa Cold Weather Comfort Food
Whether it's a warm drink, something nice and warm in a bowl, or something sugary to make you feel better... When it's cold outside there's nothing better than your favorite comfort foods and drinks. Just a few that come to mind immediately when the thermometer dips below 45 in West Texas include:
Freeze Warning For Midland Odessa Overnight
With fall comes our usual temperatures that range between 30 overnight and 83 during the day. And tonight is one of those nights that will dip to the freezing mark. We are under a Freeze Warning from 3 am till 9 am Friday. So remember to bring your outdoor plants and flower pots inside, don't leave the pets outdoors (if YOU'RE cold outside--THEY'RE cold outside!), and leave outdoor plumbing at a drip so pipes don't burst. Indoor plumbing is safe for the moment as temps would have to be lower to affect it. Wind chills will also be a factor and are expected to fall into the mid 20's overnight. If you have an above-ground sprinkler system be sure to drain it and turn it off so the pipes don't freeze.
Permian Pet Of The Week
Uma is an amazing Blood Hound mix who will play fetch for hours and never tire! She even washes her ball for you when she thinks is has gotten too dirty! She will alert you to visitors and perhaps a leaf blowing in the yard. Uma loves people and will give kisses when she is in the mood... Not a big fan of others hogging her spotlight, Uma would need to be the only pet! When you meet her, you would never know she is 10 years old as she can run circles around dogs half her age! Uma needs a very large yard with a secure fence, as she likes to dig! Due to her size and excitement level, Uma would do best with children 8 years and up. In addition to playing fetch, Uma loves car rides! She especially loves to stick her head out the window and feel the breeze! Uma is considered a special needs dog as she takes daily medication. To find out more about Uma call or visit Lone Star Sanctuary For Animals! Visiting hours are 1-4:30 pm every day except Thursdays.
Cell Phone Signal And Coverage A Struggle In Spots In Midland Odessa
We've all experienced it. Doesn't matter which carrier you have, doesn't matter the model of the Android or iPhone you have. For some reason--and maybe it's the constant wind here, who knows--cellular service can be touch and go. I know it also matters where you are in the Basin as well--because we live in one of the subdivisions off Big Spring St and Mockingbird in Midland--and we have T-Mobile for a provider. The signal coverage at the house is marginal. If it weren't for the Wifi connection, we'd be lost on our phones at home. But it was that way when we moved here too with Verizon phones. So it's most likely location and cell towers not being close...
Cowboys VS Chiefs–A Midland Odessa Workplace Divided
It had to happen eventually. I knew when I took this job that the day would finally come where I would be on my own in the office at the end of the hallway. That day is this Sunday, as the 7-2 Dallas Cowboys head to Kansas City to take on my Chiefs at 3:25 PM. It seems to be a new day for the Cowboys organization, coming off last season which didn't find many fans overly excited coming into this year. But it's a whole new day 5 hours down I-20 from the Permian Basin at AT & T Stadium. Dak is back and ready for the attack on the field-and his teammates are just as ready. Ah-but they haven't run into the Patrick Mahomes buzz saw yet......
Top 5 Dog Groomers In The Permian Basin According To YOU
Just like people-being selective on who styles and cuts your hair can be hit or miss with pets, too. Every business and stylist has a different level of experience and skillset, and if you don't choose wisely, you can end up with a really bad 'do. The good news is that it grows back, so it's just for a limited time. But that limited time can be no fun to deal with. It's also the same with pets and people that certain stylists are better with certain breeds and knowing what works best with them, just like men and women usually see different people for their haircuts.... so should pets!
Clearing Up The Hiring Myth In Midland – Odessa
Everywhere you look it seems in your daily travels around the Permian Basin-you see HELP WANTED or NOW HIRING signs around every corner and down every street there's a business. I see them too-doesn't matter what type of business it is. So one of two things is happening: Either no one wants to work, or people are applying and no one's getting a callback. I've heard several stories of the latter from people who were definitely qualified for a position, but for whatever reason never got the phone call--and the sign is still up searching. So when you hear those kinds of things-it changes your perspective because you may think no one wants to work-but they can't work unless they're offered a job. And to get there you have to interview.
Veteran-Owned Business To Open In Midland
What could be more appropriate to be excited about on Veteran's Day than a new establishment coming to Midland that's owned and run by Veterans, that also supports Law Enforcement and First Responders? Up until now-the closest location of the Black Rifle Coffee Company has been in San Antonio--a nice short five-hour drive from here in the Basin. But soon, we will have our own location right near Fiesta Avenue and Big Spring Street--address 3500 Big Spring St. Construction got underway earlier this year, and it's starting to come together nicely.
