The restoration of the historic Martin County convent continue as workers put on a new roof and some new landscaping also.

According to YourBasin.com, officials with the Historic 1884 Carmelite Monastery and Convent and Our Lady of Mercy Academy report that workers are currently working on adding rafters and a new roof to the formerly neglected historical structure.

They are also adding some new landscaping in the form of trees from a private donation.

The restoration on one of the most historic buildings in Martin County began two years ago and has been funded through fundraising efforts and grants to get the building as close to the original look from when it was in operation back in the late 1800's.
