Wine Fun Facts & Pickup Lines To Use On Your Next Wine Date
Wine has been around for centuries and honestly, I’d like to thank the creators of wine because it sure does help this momma wind down after a busy day at work.
However, this momma is also participating in Dry January so she sure does miss her wine. Even though I haven't had a glass of wine in a few weeks It doesn't mean I can’t provide the world with some wine fun facts and most importantly a few wine-inspired pickup lines!
These fun facts and pickup lines would be great anytime you’re out enjoying a glass of wine, but they would be especially great if you plan on attending KISS-FM’s Wine & Chocolate Affair happening Thursday, February 2nd.
Here are some fun, weird, and amusing facts about wines.
1: To quench their thirst, people drank wine instead of water centuries ago. During that time, water wasn't clean all the time, and natural fermentation, when the wine is made, could kill germs caused by typhi (salmonella) and cholera.
(Why wasn’t I born during this time?)
2: Apparently, some people have a "fear of wine," and it's called oenophobia.
(I’m sorry for their loss.)
3: During the early Roman times, it was forbidden for women to drink wine. Wives who were caught by their husbands drinking wine could be killed if caught in the act.
(Dang. Glad I wasn’t around back then!)
4: Women are more susceptible to the effects of wine than men. It's partly due to biology, as women have fewer enzymes in the stomach lining required to break down alcohol.
(Guilty as charged.)
5: In ancient Greece, the host of dinner would take the first sip of wine to assure that the wine served to guests wasn't poisoned. The act of courtesy was where the phrase "drinking to one's health" originated.
(Gonna use this excuse next time at a dinner party.)
6: At a wine-tasting event, it is okay to spit the wine out. When attending such events, it is acceptable to take a sip of wine and hold it in your mouth for a few seconds and then decide to swallow or spit it out. It also allows guests to taste multitudes of wine without getting drunk.
(Nah. I’m not wasting my precious wine!)
7: The top three most significant producers of wine in the world are France, Spain, and Italy. The US (California) ranks fourth, followed by China in fifth place.
(BRB moving to France, Spain, or Italy.)
8: Wine is made with grapes, but not with the typical table grapes that can be bought at the supermarket.
