The annual chlorine flush of Midland and Odessa water systems will begin this Friday, June 1, 2018 and run for the next 30 days.

According to NewsWest 9, the annual flush is to prevent algae from forming in the underground water lines and making sure the water remains drinkable.

The flush will be happening for the next 30 days and city officials in Midland and Odessa are warning residents not to be alarmed if they smell a slight chemical odor or chlorine odor in the water.

Fire hydrants in both cities will also be drained to help with the algae elimination in water lines.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has been notified about the chlorine flush from both cities.
