With the holidays upon us, many people will be celebrating several times through the month of December which naturally means more people will wake up a little hazy and hungover. In fact, a recent study suggests that drinkers will have at least four hangovers this month. Really? Only four?

Let's face it, December can be a month of total stress. You have Christmas shopping to do, preparations for parties, and family you haven't seen all year coming in like a herd of buffalo.

No matter the situation, booze plays a major factor during the holidays. And with booze comes the dreaded hangover. Trust me, the older you get, the worse these hangovers are.

According to a recent survey, the average drinker will have 4 hangovers in the month of December. As someone that enjoys liquid libations quite often, I have to say I feel this number is a little low, especially during the holidays.

I guess I'm above average? Yes!

The point is, that even average drinkers drink more during the holidays. Honestly, I don't think we need a survey to come to that conclusion. But, here we are.

Hangovers suck.

The worst part about having too good of a time is the next day. The pounding headache, the dry mouth, the uncontrollable urge to drink mass quantities of water, and the overall hazy feeling. Feels good, right?

I usually try some prevention tactics to avoid hangovers like drinking water, taking ibuprofen, and drinking a coke before bed. However, if you don't do any of that and find yourself with a monster hangover, here are some tips that might help you out.

Hangover Remedies

  • Get some fresh air - If you can drag yourself out of bed, get outside and get some sunshine and fresh air.
  • Coffee - A hot pot of java can do the trick
  • Painkillers - Duh
  • Fizzy drinks - There's just something a Dr. Pepper or some other kind of carbonated beverage that feels good and refreshing
  • Cold Shower - I'm not a fan of cold showers, but they sure do get you up and alert quickly
  • Fruit - My mom always said to eat a banana to help a hangover. Kids listen to your mom because she is right.
  • Herbal Tea - Sipping on a hot cup of tea helps soothe the throat and gives you time to think about all the stupid things you did the night before
  • Food - The greasier the better
  • Stay in bed - You feel horrible so you might as well just stay in bed
  • Swimming - My roommate and I had a swimming pool and would jump into it the next morning no matter what the temperature was outside
  • Work out - Believe it or not, some people are actually dedicated enough to get their hungover rear end into the gym the next day...psychos
  • Sauna - The steam from the sauna is so awesome as you sweat out all of those Jagerbombs you ad the night before
  • Hair of the Dog - This method is tried and true. Bloody Marys work the best

These remedies will go a long way in helping you through the tragedy that is a hangover.

Have a happy and safe holiday and remember, if you're going to drink, do it responsibly.
