In case you missed it, Miley Cyrus covered Nine Inch Nails in Black Mirror Season 5.

In the third episode, titled “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too,” the "Cattitude" singer plays a struggling purple-haired pop star named Ashey O, who lends her voice to an AI personal assistant. It also turns out, the song she performs in the ep is a reworked version of NIN's "Head in a Hole," which was released in 1989.

Instead of the band's lyrics, the show rewrote a few lines so that they were little more fitting for Cyrus' character after everything she went through. She sings, “Hey there, whoah-ho, I’m on a roll/ Riding so high, achieving my goals/ I’m so stoked on ambition and verve/ I’m gonna get what I deserve.”

In the original, frontman Trent Reznor sings, “Head like a hole/ Black as your soul/ I’d rather die than give you control/ Bow down before the one you serve/ You’re going to get what you deserve.”

Thankfully, Reznor was fully onboard and "really happy" to give showrunner Charlie Brooker his approval to rewrite the lyrics to “Head Like a Hole” and other tracks from the band's catalog.

“Trent got it straight away. it was via email and he was really happy pretty quickly. He wanted to see the script and I got to re-write his lyrics in a chirpy way,” Booker said. “I’m not the best lyricist in the world—in the first song she’s singing: ‘I’m stoked on ambition and verve’ instead of ‘You’re gonna get what you deserve.'”

But it seems like NIN was very happy to be involved with the show seeing as they're selling collaborative T-shirts that feature the new updated Black Mirror lyrics.
