ABC had the chance to take a run at Jessica Jones long before Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Marvel Netflix series, and another opportunity may have come around. The network is said to be working a new female-led Marvel TV series in the vein of our favorite alcoholic private investigator.

Granted there isn’t very much to go on just yet, but The Hollywood Reporter says Marvel Television Senior VP of original programming Karim Zreik alluded to the new project during the Edinburgh TV Festival. All he would offer of the new female-focused project is that “It’s Jessica Jones-esque.”

For the moment, ABC has the upcoming eight-episode run of The Inhumans, which may or may not be one-and-done, thanks to poor word of mouth and recent posters advertising the “Complete Series” debut in September. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will also return for a fifth, and potentially final season immediately after, while other series like a Most Wanted spinoff or John Ridley’s mystery project bottomed out.

A new female-focused ABC Marvel drama will surely dredge up memories of Agent Carter, but what character(s) might take the spotlight, and how literal is that “Jessica Jones-esque” label? She-Hulk, perhaps? Ms. Marvel? Stay tuned for more to emerge from the project.
