Texas Tech didn't go undefeated on the weekend, but among the weekends biggest moments Red Raiders and former Red Raiders shined incredibly bright. The much maligned Texas Tech basketball team got a huge win over a top 15 team at home when they beat the Kansas State Wildcats 71-63. The Texas Tech Track and teams both had solid weekends breaking records with both teams staying ranked inside the top 15.

The Texas Tech softball team started 3-2 with a barrage of games over the weekend, with the highlight coming in a 4-0 win over UT Arlington that featured a no-hitter for Red Raider pitcher Sage Hoover.

That's just the surface though, before the weekend even got into full swing, Zach Thomas was announced as an Pro Football hall of fame inductee after NFL legends like Brian Urlacher, Peyton Manning and Kevin Mawae had advocated on his behalf over the last half decade.

The moment that Thomas finally learned he'd been inducted after being a finalist several times made the room I was in incredibly dusty, bringing a little West Texas to my eye.

The NFL hype didn't end there with the face of the NFL and Texas Tech Football Patrick Mahomes winning NFL MVP, Super Bowl MVP and a second Lombardi Trophy all in the same weekend.

Patrick Mahomes is only 27 years old and now has two Super Bowl MVPs, two NFL MVPs, and two Super Bowl championships. He was the first NFL MVP to win the Super Bowl MVP in the same season since 1999 when Kurt Warner did it.

Mahomes' legacy is already that of a hall of fame quarterback. Again, he's 27.

The hype certainly was on the MVP this weekend, but he wasn't the only Red Raider in the Super Bowl. The Eagles DB Zech McPhearson also finished his career at Texas Tech.

All of that and we still have Texas Tech baseball getting underway at the end of this week.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl LVII

Mahomes locked up Super Bowl MVP in the 38-35 win over Jalen Hurts and the Eagles.

Patrick Mahomes Finally Beats Joe Burrow to Win AFC Championship

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were 0-3 against Joe Burrow and the Bengals before finally slaying the dragon 23-20 in the AFC Championship. The Chiefs will head to their 3rd Super Bowl in four years after playing in their 5th straight AFC Championship game.
