With the COVID-19 pandemic, to-go alcohol sales have increased across the state and Gov. Abbott made a temporary rule to allow to-go alcohol sales in Texas and now says he supports the practice to continue.

According to NewsWest 9, Gov. Abbott signed the waiver on March 18, 2020 and it was only supposed to go until May 1, 2020 but was extended indefinitely before the May 1 deadline.

Abbott says he supports the idea of making the rule permanent and State Representative Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound) also is in support and is planning to file a bill in the upcoming legislative session to make it happen.

The next legislative session begins January 12, 2021.
