Ector County Commissioners have been tossing around the idea of expanding the county jail, and now they have voted on an official debt to get it started.

According to NewsWest 9, back in April commissioners voted on how much they would need to expand the Ector County Jail, and this week they voted on an official debt to get the expansion started.

The commissioners voted for a $25 million budget for the construction of the jail, and another $1.8 million budget for the fees included with the construction.

County Judge Ron Eckert hopes to get construction started on the new jail by the beginning of 2018.
