Did You Feel That? 11 Earthquakes Strike Around Midland/Odessa Since Last Week

The United States Geological Survey has registered 11 earthquakes near Midland/Odessa since May 11.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, if you didn't feel them, don't worry, the quakes ranged between 1.9 to 2.7 magnitude which would not be felt by humans.

EarthquakeTrack.com shows four earthquakes, one in Odessa and three between Midland and Odessa, three north of Stanton, three north of Big Spring, and one near Mentone.

The quakes are happening at a lesser rate than they were back in January, but there have been 229 quakes in the past 365 days, and 22 quakes in the past 30 days.

The most active area in the region is near Mentone in Loving County where they have had 37 earthquakes in the past week, 165 in the past month, and 2,147 in the past year.

By comparison, EarthquakeTrack.com has registered 365 quakes around Los Angeles, and 341 around San Francisco in the past 365 days.

Interesting that the most famous and active fault line in the country is less active than the oilfields of West Texas, but it is.

In far West Texas, nine earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.0 or higher have been registered.

According to the website Upseis, an educational site for seismologists, a quake magnitude of 2.5 to 5.4 is "often felt, but only causes minor damage."

I personally have not felt a quake in several months, the last one I remember was in November and since I was laying in bed I didn't feel it, but I heard the house and windows rattle so that's the only way I knew we had an earthquake.
