Donald Glover’s ‘Deadpool’ Animated Series Canceled at FX
Some wounds not even Deadpool can heal. Almost one year after the the initial announcement, FX and Marvel confirm that Donald Glover’s Deadpool animated series is no longer in development.
Variety reports that FX, Glover and Marvel TV abandoned the project over “creative differences,” though no actual scripts for the ten-episode FXX order are believed to have been written. Glover and his brother Stephen were to write the “animated adult action-comedy TV series adaptation” in between Atlanta seasons, while Archer animation house Floyd County was to handle the visuals. FX’s statement at least assures that Marvel TV will continue to collaborate on Legion:
Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel’s ‘Deadpool’ animated series, FX will no longer be involved with the project. FX and Marvel have an ongoing relationship through our partnership on ‘Legion,’ which will continue.
As the project was not in production, it is doubtful any voice actor was chosen for the title character. It remains unclear if Marvel TV might shop the Deadpool series elsewhere. Variety also theorizes that Glover may have been too busy to shepherd the series, as his schedule over the last year included Atlanta, Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Lion King and his music career as Childish Gambino.
We may yet see a TV iteration of Deadpool, but who should replace Donald Glover?
