Cotton Flat Road Overpass Closed After Being Struck Twice

The overpass has had its share of hits from oversized loads, but it has never been hit twice in the same 1 hour period.

According to NewsWest 9, MPD reported a truck carrying an excavator hit the bridge at 3:09pm on Thursday, September 24, 2020, the driver fled the scene but was caught moments later at I-20 and Loop 250.

Then at 3:40pm while crews were investigating the damage, a second truck struck the bridge but caused only minimal damage.

The westbound lanes of I-20 were closed until 7:45pm when the lanes were reopened.
