Every year, we celebrate Halloween on October 31st. Also, every year we hear complaints from people, including myself, about the fact that the day usually falls on a school/work night and it really sucks to have to get up early the next day. So, should we change the day we celebrate Halloween on? One group wants a change.

As I said, this question comes up every single year. With all of the festivals trick or treating and parties that come with celebrating Hallows Eve, it would be nice to not have to worry about going to work or school the next day. It really would. Then again, about every 5 or 6 years, we're able to celebrate it on a Friday or Saturday.

On the other hand, some people (not me) want to keep Halloween on October 31st because, well, honestly, I don't know why they think that. Maybe they fear change? Maybe they don't really like Halloween and don't care? Maybe this dude scares them?

Personally, I would love to see Halloween move to a Saturday. It just makes sense. Most of the parties and events happen on the weekend, people have more time to celebrate, and kids and parents alike don't have to worry bout getting up early the next day after experiencing their sugar coma.

Over the years, there have been petitions started on change.org for Halloween to be moved. In fact, the Halloween and Costume Association started a petition to move the day to the last Saturday of October moving forward. The petition received a ton of signatures, but after a year or so, the organization changed its stance on the petition itself.

Instead of changing the date that American’s celebrate Halloween, we will be adding an additional day of festivities in partnership with Party City and other brands. National Trick or Treat Day will take place annually on the last Saturday of October so families across the country can participate in community parades, throw neighborhood parties and opt for daytime Trick or Treating. That sounds like a pretty good idea to me. Seems that would make everyone happy by not changing the actual day but creating another day to celebrate. Wait, what?

Anyway, if you want to sign the new petition, head on over to change.org and sign that bad boy.

Happy Halloween!
