Andrews To Become New Site For a Solar Farm
Even though we have not gotten much sun in the past few weeks with all the needed rain, we all know if you have lived here any amount of time that we have many more days a year of sunshine. That makes West Texas the perfect place for a solar farm.
According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Andrews County will be the selected location to put in a 4600 acre solar farm initiated by Longroad Energy, which partnered with Facebook and Shell Energy North America.
The Prospero Solar Project will be one of the biggest solar farms in the United States with a 2020 completion date expected.
The price tag on the solar farm will be approximately $416 million, with a maximum output of 379 megawatts.
Developers said Longroad is looking into other areas of West Texas to bring more solar energy projects.
