The end of FX’s Feud leaves Jessica Lange’s schedule wide open, and while American Horror Story Season 7 is already in motion, Ryan Murphy wants his prime star back. The prolific creator is hoping Lange will agree to return to Horror before long, especially for that potential crossover season.

TVGuide spoke to Murphy at a recent Feud event, learning that while American Horror Story hasn’t fully broken a crossover story between Season 1’s Murder House and Season 3’s Coven, they’re optimistic Lange could be persuaded back:

I think she would if I bribed her enough, you know? I haven’t really talked to her about it at all because we are still figuring out that story, but I think we do want to do that.

Back in January, Murphy hinted how the as-yet-unscheduled crossover season might work:

It’s a character from season 1 that will be thrust into the world that you are left with at the end of Coven, which is sort of like the male/female/witch academy. And then all of those characters will intertwine, which is confusing because some of them are from seasons 1 and 3. Like, Sarah Paulson will probably be playing 18 characters.

Assuming Lange were to return, there’s no guarantee Constance Langdon would necessarily run afoul of Fiona Goode, who – spoiler alert – didn’t survive the third season. It’s at least plausible that the Murder House crossover character is a grown-up Michael Harmon, whose sinister paranormal abilities would fit Miss Robichaux’s academy.

In either case, we’ve two more American Horror stories beyond Season 7 to figure out, but is the crossover lost without Lange?
