Sorry to say it, but Captain Cold is officially on ice. After a few years going back and forth between The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, Wentworth Miller confirms ice-cold anti-hero Leonard Snart is filming his final episodes with the Arrow-verse franchise.

Miller shared over Instagram that he’d been “shooting some of my final episodes as ‘Captain Cold/Leonard Snart’” on both Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash, adding with an air of past-tense that he’d “had a tremendous time playing this character.” Neither The CW nor Warner Bros. TV responded to requests for clarification, though Miller’s gratitude and finality in the post surely weren’t an accident.

The former Prison Break star originated the role on Season 1 of The Flash in 2014, before moving to Legends of Tomorrow as a series regular. Miller then transitioned to a “franchise regular” position of appearing on multiple series, but hasn’t yet appeared in either Legends or Flash in their third and fourth seasons. The character was present in the upcoming four-way crossover key art, though it remains unclear if Snart will be sticking around on either series for an episode or two thereafter.

Miller’s exit is the latest in an apparent string of departures from the Arrow-verse, as last season saw Miller’s fellow “franchise regular” John Barrowman confirming that Malcolm Merlyn would leave the various series behind. Miller’s Legends Season 1 co-star Victor Garber is also confirmed to leave the series behind in the coming months.

We’ll see what becomes of Wentworth Miller’s fan-favorite character in the coming weeks, but should The Flash or Legends seek out a new Captain Cold?
