After more than a decade of development, Y: The Last Man is finally getting a TV series – at FX.

The network has handed out a series order for the drama from showrunner Michael Green and starring Barry Keoghan and Diane Lane. It is expected to premiere in 2020.

Keoghan plays Yorick Brown, the title character and the last man alive on Earth after every other dude croaks under mysterious circumstances. Melina Matsoukas (Master of None directed the pilot for the series. The cast also includes Amber Tamblyn, Imogen Poots, and Lashana Lynch.

We also got our first official photo from the show:

The gas mask was a big motif in the original Y: The Last Man comic, which was written by Brian K. Vaughn and illustrated by Pia Guerra. It helped Yorick conceal his identity as he moved about the world — after all, every single man on the planet was supposed to be dead, so if someone saw him, that could cause quite a stir. Here’s an awesome cover that features the mask:

Y: The Last Man is one of the greatest comics of the 21st century, and for years it’s seemed to me like an obvious source material for a great TV series. For a long time, though, the momentum seemed to be in making a movie, which would have been a lot trickier. This seems much more appropriate and exciting.
