What Were the Former Names of Main and Wall Streets in Midland?

For your Monday history lesson, I ask you what the former names of Wall St. and Main St. in downtown Midland were?

We find the answer courtesy of the Midland Reporter-Telegram. 

The original name of Wall Street was Iowa Avenue when the town was incorporated in the late 1800's. Main Street also was formerly Abilene Street.

The City of Midland released a newsletter in 2006 about the street name changes that happened in 1910 and 1929, here is an excerpt from that newsletter:

"By ordinance dated July 7, 1910, the City Council changed the name of Abilene Street to Main Street, Iowa Avenue to Wall Street and then Main Street to New York Avenue. Then, on January 8, 1929, in a regular City Council meeting held at the Scharbauer Hotel, the following street names were changed: Wattles Avenue to Kansas Avenue, Estes Avenue to Louisiana Avenue, Garrett Avenue to Texas Avenue and Van Horn Avenue to Wall Street."
