Watch Out For ‘False Spring’ in West Texas, It is a Real Thing
"False Spring" is a real thing in West Texas but don't be fooled, more cold weather is around the corner.
Right now, temperatures are getting to a more spring-like feel but don't fool yourself, this is just one of many false springs we will have before Easter.
Easter comes pretty late this year, but don't think there won't be another cold blast or two or three before Easter gets here on April 17.
In all the years I have been alive there was one thing my grandmother and my mom used to always say: "There is always a cold spell the week of Easter."
I used to scoff at this thinking they were just saying things that were old wives' tales until I started paying attention to the weather the week of Easter starting in my teens.
I found out that my farmer's wife grandmother and my raised on a farm mother were right about this occurrence.
Every year of my life since I have been taking note of it there is always a cold spell the week of Easter. It may or may not be an actual freeze but it will be a cold spell that will let you know one last time that winter is not done with us.
It will more than likely be a freeze if Easter falls in March or early April, but with Easter falling so late this year it will just be a cool off sometime the week before Easter.
So get ready for a cool-off the week of Easter and a couple more cold spells before Easter gets here.
