Posts have been circulating about the threat of a potential shooting in Midland and Odessa Walmarts have been determined as a hoax.

According to NewsWest 9, the posts have been on Facebook and Twitter and has caused concern among residents in the aftermath of the El Paso Walmart shooting.

The threat claims "guy just got pulled over in Lubbock and caught with a bunch of guns and admitted that him and a lot of other people were coming towards the Odessa/Midland area to shoot up the Walmarts."

Midland and Odessa police contacted the Lubbock PD along with Texas Rangers and determined the information was false.

The agencies do encourage the public to be aware of their surroundings and if they do get information like the false texts that were sent out to let public officials know so they can investigate before causing a public panic.
