Watch Tom Cruise Bounce Back From a Failed ‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Stunt
As someone in his early 30s, I feel like everything I do comes with the risk of hurting myself. I go for a run without stretching every single muscle? Hurt myself. I reach down to pick something up? Hurt myself. I sit in one position for an extended period of time without straightening out my back? Hurt myself. That’s just one of a dozen reasons why I find Tom Cruise so impressive: as a 55-year-old, it’s not like Cruise is going to hurt any less after his physical activities, he just finds ways to pick himself back up after something goes wrong.
That’s apparently what happened this weekend on the set of Mission: Impossible 6, with TMZ (via The Hollywood Reporter) capturing a video of Cruise allegedly hurting himself during a stunt gone wrong. You’ll have to click through to watch the set video, but Cruise — as usual, doing his own stunts — leaps from one rooftop to the next, only to miss his mark and hit the side of the building at full speed. Cruise is visibly shaken up, even falling to his knees for a moment before limping around the rooftop, and is helped off the roof by two crew members.
If this were any other actor, we might rightfully wonder how this would affect the production going forward, but this isn’t exactly the first time that Cruise has beaten himself up for the perfect action sequence. Here’s wishing the actor a speedy recovery and the social media savvy to share a photo of his subsequent bruise for all of us to see. And if it makes you feel better, Tom, I pulled a muscle in my shoulder other day reaching across my body for a can of soda. So. We both know what it’s like to perform our own stunts.
Mission: Impossible 6 will hit theaters on July 27, 2018.
