There are a ton of people on this planet celebrating the fact that today is the date, highlighted 26 years ago in 'Back to the Future II', but even thought I find it a little sad, there's something fun going on today!

The first of the BTTF trilogy was amazing for it's time with its time travel and humor. It still stands the test for sic-fi fans today. By the time #2 hit the theaters (pardon the pun) fans were ready to see more of Marty, Doc and the Delorean. This time most of the action took place in the future...a future imagined 26 years from when the movie was released.

So far science and technology has kept pace with the movie with the advent of:

Big screen TVs and Video Conferencing.

Hands-free Video Games.

Hoverboards...sort of, but not for everyone and a special course is required.

Drones.

Video screen Glasses.

World Champion Chicago Cubs? Maybe!

The Iranians wanting the bomb...some things never change. Back then we didn't have a government that would want to give it to them.

There were some things that they didn't get right too, but who cares about that. The whole point is was that we had HOPE that we might have ALL these things by now. After this week though, all of 'Back to the Future', will have happened...in the past.

For me, there is something melancholy about today. It's like we've lost something. I can't put my finger on it, but I'm sad that it's moving out of our 'future' timeline into a place where things fade. Nothing lasts forever and I guess we have other things to look  forward to.

So to cheer myself up, I'm celebrating today by dressing up as Marty McFly, carrying a sign asking for money to '...get back to 1985!'. Actually, anything I collect will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital!

So listen for where 'Marty' will be today and give generously!
