T'kilaz is opening a second location in northwest Midland next to Academy.

The new location is going to be where Freebirds, Complete Health, and Smiling Moose Deli/La Jaiba all were located at 3322 North Loop 250.

All three locations have closed down so the restaurant will convert the building that is split up into 3 different storefronts, into one location that uses all of the 6,924 square feet that the building provides.

This will include breaking down walls to open the building up and using a little more than half of the square footage as the bar.

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved a specific use designation requiring that the sale of all alcohol must be consumed on the premises.

Gomca Family Restaurants, the company that runs T'kilas, has been wanting to open a second location after the success of its first restaurant located in the Colonnade Shopping Center in the former location of Abuelos and Brazilian Steakhouse.

With the vacancy of Freebirds a few years ago and the recent closings of La Jaiba and Complete Health, those closings opened up the possibility to make the shopping center all one business instead of three different businesses.

The proposed hours the restaurant will be open is 8:00 am to 1:00 am daily.

No date has been given for the opening of the second location, but it should be opened by summer 2022.

This will give Midland/Odessa another choice for Mexican food which is the most popular form of food in the area, and another place for friends to meet and have a drink also.
