Texas is a popular destination for folks who live up north looking to escape the cold. But, traveling here during the winter doesn’t necessarily ensure a vacation in warm weather.

Don’t get me wrong. Yes, it will most likely be much warmer than Minnesota or North Dakota. But we do get some freezing cold temps down here, especially up in the panhandle. Luckily, for those of us who hate the cold, that sort of weather doesn’t typically hang around for very long.

As someone who grew up in North Texas, I would say your best bet is to head down south if your number one objective is to hang out in warm temps for a few days. The weather in this part of Texas is much more unpredictable (except for summer, when you can bet your ass it’ll be hotter than Satan’s breath).

But with that being said, Dallas-Fort Worth actually ranked well in a study conducted by WalletHub to determine the best warm-weather winter destinations, coming in at Number 4 on the list.

However, Dallas wasn’t the top-ranked Texas city on the list. That would be Austin, who came in at Number 2, right behind the not-so-surprising Las Vegas.

Overall, the usual suspects made the Top 10, with Houston and San Antonio rounding out the list of Texas cities that ranked among the best.
