The Last Class Of Robert E. Lee High School Graduates Tonight
60 years ago, Robert E. Lee High School Graduated its first class, that was 1961, in 2021 the last class graduates tonight.
According to NewsWest 9, Rachelle and Greg Martin are 1989 and 1990 graduates of Lee High School and tonight (May 28, 2021) their daughter graduates as the last class of Robert E. Lee High School.
Then the new Legacy High School will start the summer-long change to get ready for the next school year.
The Martins are reflecting on the legacy of Lee High School and what it meant to be a Rebel.
"We each had each other's back, we'd help whenever we needed to," said Rachelle Martin. "If they needed something, we did our best to do what we could for each other, or if you needed a ride to school or something. I'm still friends with a bunch of them today."
Greg Martin just wants the school not to change too much.
"Continue the tradition of football, all that, the band, and don't change it up too much," said Greg Martin.
As a graduate of Lee High School in 1984, I also look back and reflect on my time at Lee High School and the friends and memories I made while going to school there.
My class was the first class to begin the state championship run that has been a part of the school's football program for the past 30+ years.
We lost that first state championship, but the accomplishment of beating Permian twice that year was the biggest accomplishment of the class of 1984 to most of us, and becoming the first class to go to state in Lee High School history was a great accomplishment also.
I will always have my memories of Lee High School and I am not one that is against the change because you cannot change the history and what Lee did in its 60 years of existence.
Legacy High School now has the opportunity to do great things in the next 60+ years and keep the tradition going with a new name but the same colors and mascot.
