Texas Farmers Can Now Grow Hemp Statewide
Hemp farmers can will soon be able to grow hemp in the state of Texas.
According to NewsWest 9, Governor Greg Abbott has just signed a bill to allow farmers to grow hemp anywhere in the state of Texas.
Products made from hemp have been legal to sell and consume but it has never been allowed to be grown in Texas.
HB1325 passed unanimously in the House and Senate and just needed the signature of the governor.
The bill allows farmers to get a growing license for a fee and to also pay for testing and inspection to meet regulatory rules.
Now it is up to the federal government to create regulations for farming hemp.
Then there will be debate between the Texas Department of Agriculture and the federal DOA also.
When regulations are agreed upon then farming can begin. The earliest the bill can go into effect is for the growing season in March of 2020.
