School is out so that means pool time is the favorite recreational activity of kids, but the Texas Dept. of State Health Services warns about pool-borne illnesses.

According to NewsWest 9, the most common illness has been Cryptosporidiosis, or Crypto, which causes symptoms of diarrhea, nausea, fever, stomach cramps, and vomiting.

The illness can spread in contaminated pools or splash pads, or in lakes and rivers.

Children are more often the ones that come down with the disease but there have been cases in adults as well.

Doctors advise to take all precautions because the bacteria can become immune to chlorine in home pools.

Natural bodies of water are more common breeding grounds for this bacteria and many others so be sure you are using precautions like showering after any kind of exposure to a pool and especially if it was a natural water source.
