Emmy Crowds Boo as Sterling K. Brown is Played Off
Sterling K. Brown's moment in the 2017 Emmys sun was cut short at last night's (September 17) show when the band played off his acceptance speech for Best Actor in a Drama series — and fans were not happy.
Brown, who blew audiences away with his This Is Us performance, thanked his fellow nominees, cast and NBC for supporting him throughout his tenure on the show.
“I want to thank my cast, Milo [Ventimiglia], Mandy [Moore], Justin [Hartley], Chrissy [Metz]: you are the best white TV family that a brother has ever had. Better than Mr. Drummond, better than the white folks that raised Webster,” he said.
Then, the broadcast's band became louder and louder until Brown eventually had to concede and walk backstage. Crowds were clearly unhappy with the move, and booed, but Brown eventually finished his speech to eager press representatives.
“I wanted to thank our writers. A show doesn’t get seven acting nominations without some impeccable, beautiful, thoughtful writing. You guys are our life’s blood, so I want to thank you so much," he said.
