My favorite donut shop, Shipley, will be opening a second location in Midland this coming Monday, April 11.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, the new location is located at 2201 W. Wall where Lori's Cafe used to be before it was demolished.

The new location will have a double drive-thru with in-line tablet ordering and payment processing. This is to increase the speed of service and make it easier to pay also.

“We are so thankful for the support Midland has shown us over the last year at our existing store on Wadley and can’t wait to be a part of the downtown community,” said Steve Wilson, one of the Midland partners of Shipley Do-Nuts.

The Shipley Do-Nuts locations are locally owned by Wilson, Paul Anderson, and Spencer Robnett. The first Midland location is on Wadley in front of Academy and Mardel next to Dickey's Barbecue.

Shipley Do-Nuts originally opened in Houston in 1936 at the end of the Great Depression. Lawrence Shipley, Sr. created the gourmet recipe and cut the donuts by hand, and served them hot throughout the day.

Shipley originally charged 5 cents a dozen and only sold them wholesale, they became so successful that by the 1940s they began selling them on the retail market.

People would show up from miles around to get the wonderful hot glazed donuts which Shipley once said,  “When they bite into that hot donut, it will bring them back every time.”

Shipley Do-Nuts now has more than 190 locations not only in Texas but also in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee with 86 of those locations in the Houston area alone.
