There's no other way to say it: this dog is a hero.

When Danielle Jacobs, who has Asperger's syndrome, had a meltdown, her dog, Samson, rushed to her aid in a move called alerting.

She explained what transpired in the video's description:

This is what's considered a meltdown. Yes Samson is alerting. I trained him to alert to depressive episodes and self harm not both but he alerted. It appears the response is late but it's actually supposed to be as I'm coming out of the meltdown as I tend to have a panic attack after.

The dog's actions have certainly struck a chord -- the video has been viewed more than four million times and may have helped call attention to the plight of people with Asperger's.

As Jacobs says, "When I have a meltdown, I often have self-injurious behavior and I often self-harm." But Samson has the ability to put her at ease. "His weight has a calming effect. He makes me acknowledge what's going on -- he kind of snaps me out of it."

This is one dog that deserves four paws and two thumbs up.
