Looks like rent in Midland has gone as low as it will go and now rents are going back up.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, October rent in Midland was 3% higher than it was in September.

A one-bedroom apartment went up to $744 while a two-bedroom apartment was $909.

That is a lot less than it was 5 years ago when one-bedroom rent was well over $1,000.

In Odessa rent is much cheaper with one-bedroom apartments going for $499 on average and a two-bedroom going at $684.

Regionally only Amarillo and Odessa have lower rents than Midland.

Abilene has one-bedroom apartments going for $866 while a Lubbock one-bedroom is going for $760.

For two-bedroom apartments, Odessa is the only place lower than Midland while Amarillo and Lubbock are closer to Midland at $933 and $944 respectively.

Abilene has the highest rent in the region for a two-bedroom sitting at $1,136.

Statewide the highest rent for a two-bedroom is in Addison at $2,206 and the lowest rent for a metropolitan area is in Houston at $1,190.

So metropolitan areas are not the place to find affordable apartments unless you have a job that you can afford to rent a two-bedroom in the 4-digit range.

Most of the upper-class suburban areas in Dallas are renting two-bedroom apartments for over $2,000 starting with Coppell at $2,000, Flower Mound at $2,154, and Addison at $2,206.

The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
