With all the unrest happening across the country this past week, people in Midland/Odessa also took to the streets to protest racial injustice over the weekend.

According to NewsWest 9, a large crowd of demonstrators formed in Downtown Odessa Sunday evening (May 31, 2020) organized by a group called March For Change Odessa.

"We are not advocating for violence and we want this to be as peaceful as possible," that was their message as posted on Twitter.

Odessa police blocked off Grant from 2nd Street to 8th Street and a crowd formed and marched peacefully up and down Grant St. mourning the loss of George Floyd.

At the same time outside of the Midland Park Mall, people gathered to protest with signs.

That scene did escalate when counter-protesters lined up opposite of them but no violence happened just back and forth shouting between the two groups.

The protesters blocked Loop 250 and Midkiff at nightfall but the crowd was gone by 10:30pm according to Midland Police.

More protests are scheduled in Odessa on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.
