West Texas has seen its fair share of unemployment claims over the past month.

According to NewsWest 9, over the past month 10,498 unemployment claims were made but that is down from the over 16,000 claims made in April.

The Texas Workforce Commission says Midland and Ector Counties are two of the top 25 counties impacted the most by COVID-19.

Between May 13 and June 23, 2020, 4,221 people in Ector County filed for unemployment insurance and in Midland county that number was a little less at 3,496.

The top industries in both counties were oil industry related and full-service restaurants.
