Our media and news partner NewsWest 9 has just been bought by Tegna Inc.

According to NewsWest 9, it was announced today (August 21, 2018) that Tegna, Inc. will be purchasing KWES-TV from Raycom which just merged with Grey Broadcasting, the company who owns CBS 7.

Because CBS 7 and NewsWest 9 are the top two performing stations in the market, Grey did not choose to include them in the merger but they will include Telemundo and KTXC-FM 104.7 in the deal. Another Raycom station, WTOL-TV in Toledo, Ohio, was also excluded from the merger and will be purchased by Tegna as well.

The sale will add NewsWest 9 to a family of stations that include eleven other stations in Texas, including Dallas-Ft. Worth, Houston, and San Antonio and will give Tegna a coverage of 87% of Teaxs.

Tegna also owns stations in larger markets across the country like Phoenix, Tampa, Washington D.C., Atlanta, San Diego, Denver, and Seattle.

The sale is expected to be finalized shortly after the merger of Raycom and Grey is complete in the last quarter of 2018.
