Oncor Warns of Scam Calls in Midland/Odessa and Gives Safety Tips
Reports have been surfacing lately of scam calls of people posing as Oncor employees, so Oncor sets the record straight on what they will and won't call you for.
According to NewsWest 9, Oncor is urging customers to be on the lookout for scammers calling them and asking for payments over the phone.
Recent callers have told customers that if they did not pay they would have their power shut off. Oncor representatives say they will never request payment directly either in person or on the phone and they have no reason to enter your home to do any work.
Oncor reminds everyone that they are the delivery service for electricity and get their payments from the utility companies such as TXU, Reliant/NRG, and other power companies so any disputes of payments would come directly from those companies and not Oncor.
Also, Oncor employees will always show you their identification but if you are ever questioning the validity of someone saying they work for Oncor, they encourage you to contact Oncor directly or call 911 if you are in fear of your safety.
The number to call and confirm if someone is actually an employee of Oncor is 888-313-6862.
