UPDATE: According to the Odessa American, Cavil has admitted that he wrote the racist note and made up the entire story.

Terry Turney, the COO of Saltgrass says quote, “After further investigation, we have learned that our employee fabricated the entire story. The customer has been contacted and invited back to our restaurant to dine on us. Racism of any form is intolerable, and we will always act swiftly should it occur in any of our establishments. Falsely accusing someone of racism is equaling disturbing.”

Cavil is no longer employed at Saltgrass.

Original Story: The sheer ignorance and racist acts of some people can cross the line, even in Odessa.

Khalil Cavil works at the Saltgrass Steak House on Hwy 191 in Odessa and was stiffed out of a tip on a $108 bill this past Saturday.

The customer wrote on the receipt that "we don't tip terrorist" and also circled Cavil's first name, Khalil,  which means "friend" in Arabic.

The shocking thing is that Cavil is African-American and was born in the United States so he took to Facebook and let all of us know that racism is still alive and well even here in Odessa/Midland.

Here is his photo he took of the receipt with the racist statement and his name circled:

Cavil is working at Saltgrass Steak House to earn money to go to Dallas Baptist University in the fall and posted the abhorrent behavior of his customer to serve as a lesson to us all.

"I share this because I want people to understand that this racism, and this hatred still exists. Although, this is nothing new, it is still something that will test your faith," said Cavil.

Cavil is using the incident to encourage himself and hopes it encourages others to change the world view.

His post has already garnered thousands of likes and shares.
