‘Ocean’s 11’ Alum Carl Reiner Will Make a Cameo in ‘Ocean’s 8’
If your movie stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, and Anne Hathaway, your movie needs no help in the star power department. Nonetheless, the awesome-sounding Ocean’s 8, a female-centric spinoff of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise, will feature at least a couple of cameos from the old series’ crew. Matt Damon previously confirmed he would make an appearance as master pickpocket Linus Caldwell. And in an interview with Vanity Fair, Carl Reiner reveals he’s got a scene in Ocean’s 8 too.
Here’s his quote:
Yeah, Ocean’s Eight, I think they’re calling it. And I got to work with my favorite actress, Sandra Bullock. I did one little scene with her, and it was such a pleasure. She’s a work of nature.
Reiner’s character is Saul Bloom, a con man who specializes in disguise and impersonation. In Eleven, he masquerades as a high-roller named “Lyman Zerga.” Reiner’s accents were a delight in all of Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s movies, and it’s great he’ll get to bring them back in some form to Ocean’s 8. At 95 years young, Reiner, who is also one of the subjects of the new HBO documentary If You’re Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast, is still going strong. But will there be more Ocean’s cameos to come? There’s still eight more dudes who could pop up, including George Clooney (whose Danny Ocean is supposedly the estranged brother of Bullock’s Debbie Ocean), Brad Pitt, and Don Cheadle.
