Colleges in Midland/Odessa will be getting financial relief to help students expenses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to NewsWest 9, Senator John Cornyn yesterday (April 14, 2020) that UTPB, Odessa College, and Midland College would be receiving over $5 million in Federal grants.

The grants are through the CARES Act and will partially go to provide emergency financial aid to help students cover expenses caused by the disruption of COVID-19.

“No Texan should have to give up their education because of the economic effects of the coronavirus,” said Senator Cornyn. “In addition to allowing students to defer their federal student loan payments for six months, the CARES Act provides targeted funding to Texas institutions to help students continue their education – even if that means taking classes online.”
