According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, the program is being funded by the Scharbauer Foundation, not only to MISD but also to ECISD for staff to get the COVID-19 vaccine to help curb the spikes in cases we are seeing.

A letter was sent out to parents and staff that read: “MISD employees who make the decision to get vaccinated from this date forward will be eligible to receive $100 for each shot. The foundation has thoughtfully extended this incentive in the hope that lives are saved, that teachers and staff remain healthy, and that others might be inspired to help. Staff should be on the lookout for more details next week. This incentive is for staff only.”

They also included that the school district will begin testing of staff who have close contacts to someone with COVID-19 beginning this week.

The funding provided by the Scharbauer Foundation was $200,000 for each school district which will fund the $100 incentive per shot that would be required with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

This would include teachers, staff, and substitute teachers at the schools in each district as well as the IDEA campuses in the Permian Basin.

Hopefully this will get the vaccine numbers up in the Permian Basin so the COVID numbers will go down, that is the goal for the program and for both districts.
