Midland Police Department Sets Up Second ‘Safe Exchange’ Zone
Midland Police Department is expanding their "Safe Exchange" zone to include the west side of the city.
According to NewsWest 9, the new zone will be set up at the west side police substation located in the same building as Fire Station 6 at 301 Tradewinds Blvd.
This is for people to safely exchange items purchased online locally so both the seller and buyer can feel more comfortable with the exchanging of merchandise and payments.
Midland Police Department officials say that the zone is clearly marked with two designated parking spaces and signage.
The area is available 24/7 for anyone to use and will also have constant video surveillance.
The "Safe Exchange" zones cannot be used for illegal transactions of narcotics, dangerous weapons, or any other dangerous materials.
Police officials say the original "Safe Exchange" zone is used at least a couple times a week or 100 times a year and is located at 601 N. Loraine St. at the Midland Police Department headquarters.
